How to Prepare for a Career Fair
Research companies
Research companies you’re interested in and come prepared to ask specific questions that reflect your knowledge of each company. You can view lists of the employers attending each fair on Handshake.
Prepare your pitch and get a confidence boost
Practice your 30-second pitch or introduction! Your pitch should offer a brief yet impactful message that highlights career interests, what you can offer to the workforce, and your goal for connecting with the individual you’re pitching. An engaging pitch and firm handshake can help you market yourself and stand out to an employer.
Review your resume
Submit your resume for review via Handshake. Or schedule a 1:1 appointment with a Career Service representative to provide you resume, cover letter assistance, and can answer questions about Handshake, LinkedIn, interview prep, and other Career Center resources. Remember to bring multiple copies of your most up-to-date resume to share with employers attending the fair, along with a pen and notepad.
Dress to impress
The recommended dress code for both the In-Person and Virtual career fairs is Business Casual. Unsure of what Business Casual attire is, you can find examples here.
If you’re looking for the perfect outfit for the fair, check out Manor Career Closet. Stocked with a variety of new and gently worn business professional clothing – everything you need for a job, internship or interview. All you need is your student ID; all items are free of charge and for students to keep.
