Black History Month

February is Black History Month, an annual observance to generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity and celebrates the rich cultural heritage and triumphs that are a part of America’s history.

On Campus Events

There will be four events on campus this month related to Black History Month.

Meet Gloria Browne-Marshall – Feb. 1 at 12:20 p.m.
Gloria Browne-Marshall is an Emmy Award-winning writer, civil rights attorney, playwright and professor. She will give a presentation in Room 20 on Manor College’s campus on Feb. 1 at 12:20 p.m.

Douglass Day – Feb. 14 from 1-3 p.m.
We invite you to a birthday party for Frederick Douglass. Although Douglass never knew his birthdate, he chose to celebrate every year on February 14th. Douglass Day 2024 will feature the correspondence of Frederick Douglass from the Library of Congress. We will attempt to transcribe all 8,731 pages in one day!

Sip, Savor and Explore – Feb. 20
Join us for a unique and engaging session where we blend the delights of tea and cookies with a jazzy exploration of cultural competence and its pivotal role in shaping our understanding historical milestones.

Black Panthers Movie Showing – Feb. 21 from 6-8 p.m.
Join us as we show the film “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution.” The event takes place in Room 28 in Mother of Perpetual Help Hall.

Black History Month Book Raffle

Enter the Early Childhood Education Club’s book raffle in honor of Black History Month. The list of books includes those that were recently published by Black authors. To see the full list, click here. The raffle runs from February 1 and ends on Feb. 29.
