Manor College Celebrates Earth Day, Every Day
Earth Day is Celebrated on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Manor College is hosting a number of environmental programs that honor Earth Day.
First, we are building a rain garden to better redirect and capture rainwater as it flows on campus. The construction projects the watershed we installed years ago and creates a basin for overflow. The rainwater will be used by Wyncote Farm, which was recently relocated to our campus by Wyncote Academy.
We are also in the beginning phases of creating a nature trail that will lead walkers alongside the Jenkintown Creek, a body of water further down campus. The creek has very few walkways in the region, so this will be a welcome addition for neighbors and visitors alike. The nature trail and rainwater garden are both made possible by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.
Additionally, Manor College has planted a hundred trees around campus and near the convent of the Sisters of St. Basil. This was thanks to a grant from The Tookany Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership and the Healing the Planet Grant from Giant Food Stores. They are beautiful trees that will create an ecological balance throughout the area. We planted the trees in the fall, and despite the difficult winter we had, they are growing nicely this spring.
This all comes right after we hosted a pancake breakfast with pure syrup tapped from our majestic maple trees on campus. “We have been taking a lot of initiatives with regard to Mother Earth,” says Professor Michael Landis, Chair of Humanities at Manor College and our unofficial ecological conservation expert on campus. He and his wife, Cynthia, are behind the tapping of the maple trees on campus. “I’m glad Manor College is doing its part on Earth Day,” says Professor Landis. “We are good stewards of the land.”
