Community Health in Action: Manor College at the Byrd Cancer Expo
The All Things Cancer + Wellness Expo is designed to provide free access to essential health services, educational resources and community support.

Manor College Dental Hygiene students delivered an oral health initiative at the annual Byrd Cancer Foundation Wellness and Cancer Expo on April 18.
The entire Dental Hygiene cohort participated to provide over 30 oral cancer screenings to community members. The group was represented by three students – Tamia Gladney, Alexandra Coyotl Arias and Jocelyn Perez – who managed population research, program development and data evaluation.
The initiative focused on the critical role of oral health throughout the cancer journey, including:
- Prevention – Early detection through clinical screenings
- During Treatment – Practical strategies for managing oral complications
- Post-Treatment: Maintaining long-term wellness after recovery.
By evaluating the delivery and community feedback, these students gained invaluable experience in public health advocacy and the life-saving importance of dental integration in oncology care.
The All Things Cancer + Wellness Expo is designed to provide free access to essential health services, educational resources and community support. It aims to bridge gaps in healthcare access while fostering hope, empowerment and connection.
