Manor College holds Inaugural Pinning Ceremony for Practical Nursing Graduates
Manor’s first practical nursing cohort started in Fall 2024.

Manor College hosted its first-ever Pinning Ceremony on Friday, December 4 to commemorate the first graduating class of Practical Nursing majors at the institution.
“As this is the first cohort of practical nursing at Manor, it was a privilege to be part of their educational journey,” said Regina Wright, Program Director for Practical Nursing at Manor College. “Nursing curricula are rigorous in terms of theory and clinical practice. I am always amazed how well students balance their coursework and life obligations.”
The pinning ceremony is a unique tradition in nursing to welcome new graduates into the profession. The pin is a symbol of their academic achievement and commitment to nursing values such as respecting patient individuality, providing empathetic care and advocating for others. A lamp is also presented to the graduates to honor Florence Nightingale’s legacy and signifies the light nurses bring to patients.
Manor College’s program is unique in that graduates leave with an Associate’s Degree in Practical Nursing. With the ceremony over and their degrees completed, the students prepare to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
“They are our inaugural class, and, as such, helped to define the program,” Dr. Joseph Gillespie, Manor College Provost, said. “Being part of an initial class takes courage and commitment. Their path was not an easy one as this degree is demanding in its design. They persevered and set a standard for future cohorts.”
In total, 17 students earned their pins and their degrees from Manor College’s first cohort of practical nursing students. The institution’s second Practical Nursing cohort began in Fall 2025, and is accepting applications for the third cohort, scheduled to start in Fall 2026.
