Nature Trail Access to Jenkintown Creek Coming to Manor College

The nature trail will be made possible thanks to a grant secured by State Senator Art Haywood.

Manor College has been awarded a Pennsylvania Community and Economic Development grant for the creation of a nature trail on the institution’s campus, the institution announced on Tuesday.

The grant, which was secured by Pennsylvania State Senator Art Haywood (D-4), supports green space improvements, community development planning and more throughout the Commonwealth. The institution will receive $50,000 through the grant.

The Nature Trail at Manor College is a new pathway along the last quarter mile of Jenkintown Creek, a section that, as of now, is not easily walkable. Professor Michael Landis, Chair of Humanities at Manor College, who often leads extracurricular nature activities for students, said he is thrilled about the funding for the grant.

“I love the idea of more natural access to the campus and to the watershed wetland behind Manor,” Landis said. “The trail also increases access to a potential network of connective trails in the Manor Woods. This trail will definitely connect our students and the greater community to the vital ecosystem that we share.”

The news of the trail grant comes shortly after Manor College received a transformative grant for the Dental Health Center. On Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development granted Local Share Account funds for the expansion and renovation of the center.

“We are thrilled to move this project forward in such a way that will have a meaningful and lasting impact,” Dr. Jonathan Peri, Manor College President, said.
