70-Year Staffer Among Annual Manor College Employee Service Award Recipients

The celebration took place during Manor College’s Annual Christmas Party in December.

Twenty Manor College Employees were honored on December 18 for their outstanding service to the institution. In total, the employees totaled more than 275 years of service to Manor College.

Anne Kiczula, Receptionist

Anne Kiczula ‘71, Manor College’s receptionist, celebrated her 70th year at Manor College. Kiczula started at Manor College in August 1955 and has held numerous jobs at Manor. She’s best known in her current role as the institution’s receptionist, but her job goes beyond answering phones.

“Institutions are made of spirit. They are made of heart. And for the last seven decades, the heart of Manor College has lived right at the front desk of the Basileiad Manor,” said Leonard Mazur, Board Chair Emeritus of Manor College. “Anne hasn’t just witnessed history, she has been the one keeping the light on while history happened.”

Her time at Manor includes serving under six different presidents and seeing the construction of every current building on Manor College’s campus. Then, of course, there’s the legendary coffee.

“We often talk about our slogan, “You Belong Here,” Mazur said “To many of us, those aren’t just words on a brochure – they are the feeling you get when you walk through the door at 7 a.m. and hear Anne’s friendly, ‘Good morning! How are you?’ She is the very heartbeat of this campus.”

Kathy Malone, Associate Professor, EFDA

Kathy Malone started at Manor College in December 1995, becoming an esteemed member of Manor College’s Expanded Functions Dental Assisting program. Jaime Simpson, Chair of Allied Health and the Director of the EFDA program, said Kathy is the “very definition of dedication.”

“Her standards are high because she truly believes in what our students are capable of,” Simpson said. “It’s no surprise that generations of students have referred to her as an excellent professor, and some affectionately referred to her as ‘Mama Malone.’ To me, she is more than an excellent professor, she is a trusted mentor and guide to countless students who have walked these halls.”

Simpson thanked Malone for being a “valuable teammate” who brings wisdom, dedication and trust to her work.

John Dempster ‘99, Athletic Director

John Dempster, Manor College’s current Athletic Director, started at Manor in January 2000. He is an alumni of the institution, graduating with a Liberal Arts degree in 1999.

Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs Allison Mootz referred to Dempster’s soccer achievements as a symbol of his current work.

“If you wanted to get a ball past the Manor College goalkeeper (Dempster), you were usually out of luck. He still holds the school record with nine shutouts,” Mootz said. “He knew how to protect the goal then and he’s been protecting the mission of Manor and the Athletic Department ever since.”

Mootz added that Dempster is a mentor, a spiritual guide and a true leader for his student athletes.
