Manor College Students Participate in Vet Tech Summit at Elmwood Park Zoo
More than a dozen Manor College Veterinary Technology students participated in the inaugural summit.
Manor College Veterinary Technology Students and Staff participated in the Inaugural Vet Tech Summit at the Elmwood Park Zoo on Wednesday, October 15. The event coincided with National Veterinary Technician Week.
The event brought together more than 50 second-year students from Veterinary Technology programs from across the Philadelphia area, and more than a dozen Manor College students attended.
Attendees listened to a panel discussion led by Manor College alum Alyssa Mages, BS, CVT ‘12 and received a behind-the-scenes tour of the Elmwood Park Zoo.
“Veterinary technicians are the backbone of animal healthcare teams,” Dr. Stephanie Marks, Program Director of Veterinary Technology at Manor College, said. “This summit shines a spotlight on their vital role while introducing students to diverse and non-traditional career paths in veterinary medicine.”
Emma Sykes, a second-year Veterinary Technology student at Manor College, said the summit gave her an inside look into her own career path.
“Being able to come to the zoo, I really learned how empathetic animals can be towards us and that drives me to show that to the world,” Sykes said. “You have a lot of choices in the vet tech community. You don’t have to be set on one path, there are many options on how to have a career in this world.”
