Manor College, Motivos Magazine Host Program Showcasing College’s Value

The event took place in Manor College’s Library Lecture Space.

Founder of *Motivos* magazine, Jenée Chizick Agüero presents the opening workshop, *Step into Your Story to Unlock Your Future* on May 1 at the Manor *Motivos* joint program addressing the value of post-secondary education.

Manor College and Motivos magazine held a joint program on Thursday, May 1 that enabled prospective students from area high schools to engage with current college students, advisors and career professionals.

The program, titled “You Belong: Your Story, Your Path, Your Future,” explored the value of a higher education degree.

“We wanted to partner with Manor College for this program to help bolster a sense of agency in high school students and strengthen their reasons to persist through post-secondary pathways,” Jenée Chizick Agüero, founder of Motivos magazine, said.

During the program, students heard from a panel of Manor College students, listened to a presentation from Manor College President Dr. Jonathan Peri and Director of Institutional Research John Krebs, and took part in workshops and small breakout sessions.

“Higher education in Pennsylvania is affordable with an incredibly strong return on investment,” Dr. Peri said. “It is the predominant investment that catalyzes upward economic mobility for families and individuals in our country. It should be mission-centric, practical, academically excellent and within the reach of all families. At Manor, we’re proud to be that catalyst for students and their families.”

Six Philadelphia-area high schools and 55 students attended the workshop.

Motivos is a bilingual magazine that showcases student voices. Motivos empowers youth in historically excluded communities by bridging gaps in access, opportunity and representation. Through their magazine and mentorship programs, Motivos co-creates a platform for cultural expression, storytelling and connection – building the confidence, community and support young adults need to pursue their dreams and thrive in life, college and career endeavors.

Manor College, located in Jenkintown, was founded in 1947 by the Ukrainian Sisters of Saint Basil the Great. To this day, it remains the only institution founded by Ukrainian Sisters in the United States. The institution features more than 30 Bachelor’s and Associate’s degrees across various career paths, including dental hygiene, practical nursing, early childhood education, business and psychology.
