Manor College recognized 18 faculty and staff with service awards, featuring three employees with 30 years of service to the Manor College community.

In total, the 18 honorees totaled 225 years of dedicated service to Manor College. The three employees members receiving 30-year honors were Calvin Miller, Leslie Weinfeld and Dr. Joanne Scorpio.

Calvin Miller, Weekend Officer

Calvin Miller has been a long-standing member of Manor College’s public safety team. Among his fellow officers, he’s known as an ever-vigilant member of the team.

Joseph McCourt, Director of Public Safety at Manor College, described Miller as punctual and dependable, someone known for his great sense of humor and fun personality.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing with his granddaughter and can often be seen perfecting his culinary skills.

“Oftentimes on the weekend, Calvin will make breakfast for his fellow officers,” McCourt said. “That’s the kind of caring person he is.”

Dr. Joanne Scorpio, Professor and Clinic Coordinator for Dental Hygiene

Dr. Joanne Scorpio was among the first members of Manor College’s Dental Hygiene program, shaping the future of dental hygiene at the institution with care and dedication. In January 1997, she became the program’s first Supervising Dentist.

“I came across Manor’s job posting and saw it as a means for filling in my gap in dentistry after giving birth to my first child,” Dr. Scorpio said. “I enjoyed it so much that I continued teaching part-time, even after resuming a more hectic patient schedule.”

She transitioned into a full-time role in the Dental Hygiene department in 2014. Today, she is a professor and the clinic coordinator for the Dental Hygiene program.

“Her commitment to the dental hygiene program, student clubs, education, mentorship and unwavering support for countless students have made a profound impact,” Jaime Simpson, Dean of Allied Health, said.

Scorpio serves as advisor of the Student American Dental Hygienists Association at Manor College and is a member of the Student Engagement Committee.

“Our program has been blessed with the ability to attract so many intelligent, kind and dedicated faculty members with whom I have been lucky enough to work beside over these many years,” Dr. Scorpio said. “Our small, private school setting has provided an atmosphere that fosters a close relationship with students. The climate is one in which faculty feel that we can make a difference in the lives of our students, while they in turn touch our lives in so many positive ways.”

Leslie Weinfeld, Math Coordinator and Professor

Leslie Weinfeld began her Manor College career in 1994 and serves today as the Math Coordinator and a Professor at the institution. Thanks to the institution’s receiving of the Title III grant in 2023, Weinfeld became the Math Coordinator where she helps students develop Math skills in the Summer Bridge program.

“I spent many years sharing an office with Leslie, she is engaging, spirited, joyful and a pleasure to work with,” Dr. Julie Senecoff, Dean of Arts and Sciences, said. “Her devotion to her pedagogy and students is second to none. Leslie can be found in the classroom, working diligently to teach math skills to students. She works tirelessly as an advisor in the business division, making sure students get everything they need.”

Weinfeld became familiar with Manor College through her mother who worked part-time at the institution. Weinfeld started as a tutor and evolved into an adjunct professor and, finally, a full-time Math professor.

Weinfeld’s career at Manor earned her the Educator of the Year Award in 2019 and the Baord of Trustees faculty award in 2023.

“It’s my dream job,” Weinfeld said. “I love it here. It’s small and intimate. I enjoy the satisfaction I get from students – a lot of whom I keep in contact with after they graduate. When you see the students and watch as they learn and the light bulb goes off for them, there’s nothing better.”
