Manor College Professor Co-Authors Book About Leadership in Early Childhood Education

Dr. Cherie Crosby-Weeks serves as the Chair of Behavioral Science and Education at Manor College.

Dr. Cherie Crosby-Weeks, the Chair of Behavioral Science and Education at Manor College, co-authored her first book, “Reflections on Writing and Leadership in Early Childhood Education.” The book, published this fall, is co-authored alongside Dr. Stephanie Blake and Dr. Priscilla Jeter-Iles

“This collaborative effort was deeply personal and professional as it intertwined our shared experiences and aspirations within the field of early childhood education,” Dr. Crosby-Weeks said.

The book was developed over the course of nine months, spanning Fall 2024 through Spring 2025. It represents a blend of Dr. Crosby-Weeks’ personal passion for cultivating leaders and leaders of color in the field, with her doctoral research studying the perceptions of teacher leadership.

Dr. Crosby-Weeks and Dr. Blake previously collaborated on a book chapter titled “Deep in the Forest: BIPOC Servant Leaders’ Journeys Through the Effects of an Invisible Tax,” which was completed during the pandemic.

In the book, the trio explores various pathways to leadership, sharing personal stories and providing practical guidance on topics like networking and mentoring.

“These insights are designed to inspire and support educators who aspire to leadership roles in their careers,” Dr. Crosby-Weeks said.

The book serves as a way to pursue Dr. Crosby-Weeks’ passion for leadership development.

“As I celebrate my 30th year in education, I have encountered numerous ‘hidden gems’ within various programs – talented individuals whose leadership potential is often overlooked,” Dr. Crosby-Weeks said. “A central goal of my work is to develop their leadership abilities, whether as a teacher leader, which was the central theme of my dissertation, or through other pathways to leadership.”
